Sierra de Luquillo: A Living Soundscape | October 18th Brooklyn, NY
I’m happy to share that Visible Light will premiere a new environmental composition "Sierra de Luquillo: A Living Soundscape" at Reforesters Laboratory, shaped by field recordings and plant data collected in Puerto Rico’s El Yunque Rainforest, one of the oldest forest reserves in the Western Hemisphere. We’ll be premiering a new work in 24 track spatial audio, combined with live performance, an immersive 90 minute piece carrying elemental frequencies for ultimate mind escape.
The piece uses living textures of the rainforest to build immersive sound environments, incorporating site-specific field recordings, plant data, and analog synthesis, combined with electro-acoustic cello, brass singing bowls, gong, and raw organic objects, using layered signal processing to form a new mode of ecological connection through sound, built from the natural frequencies of this sacred ecosystem.
Reforesters Laboratory is an experimental adaptogenic cafe and sound clinic located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They utilize music – including spatial, sub-bass-centered, and organic instrumentation – along with breathwork, meditation, art, plant care and adaptogenic, nutritional foods + beverages to cultivate kindness—both physical and spiritual. The space aims to create an environment that offers peace, space, and clarity, helping people understand the connections between themselves, their communities, and the world around them. To that end, the space offers "pay what you can" ticket options on all events and classes.
I’m so excited to share this new music with you!
