Matthew Hiram is a multi-disciplined artist, composer, and producer based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His work explores the influence of nature on human consciousness, using practices rooted in acoustic ecology, deep listening, and electro-acoustics to explore the connections between humanity and the living earth surrounding us.
He records solo music under the name Hiram, and is one half of Visible Light, a duo collaboration with cellist Amy McNally.
Visible Light’s recent album Sierra de Luquillo: A Living Soundscape was recorded in Puerto Rico's El Yunque Rainforest, released via Permaculture Media on World Rainforest Day 2026.
A certified Minnesota Water Steward, Hiram has developed sound work in connection with the Walker Art Center and the Freshwater Society.
He also runs two independent record labels, Lighten Up Sounds (est. 2007) and Permaculture Media (est. 2024).
