Matthew Hiram is a multidisciplinary artist, composer, and producer based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His work explores relationships between the natural world and human experience, drawing on acoustic ecology, deep listening, and electroacoustic process to investigate how sound can foster connection with the living Earth.

Hiram is a certified Minnesota Water Steward whose work promotes ecological awareness, environmental conservation, and connection to the natural world through the arts.

Hiram's work has been commissioned by organizations including the Walker Art Center, Reforesters Laboratory, and Freshwater Society. His work in sonic conservation has been supported by the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council (Next Step Fund, 2023) and Hennepin County Environment & Energy (Arts for Water, 2022).

He records solo music under the name Hiram and is one half of Visible Light, a collaboration with cellist Amy McNally. Visible Light's sophmore album Sierra de Luquillo: A Living Soundscape was recorded in Puerto Rico's El Yunque Rainforest, and released on World Rainforest Day 2026.

He also runs two independent record labels: Lighten Up Sounds, established in 2007, and Permaculture Media, established in 2024.
